Please noted that: A prediction market project called “delphi.markets” emerged right upon the launch of Delphy’s website. However, Delphy has nothing to do with such project, neither do Delphy know any background of the project and its team

Delphy has been recently informed by users on the decentralized prediction market projects under the name of Delphy or the name similar to Delphy that may cause confusion, which has been confirmed by us. The name “Delphy” is derived from Delphi, the temple of Apollo, where is the place to receive the oracle of Apollo, the god of sun in ancient Greece. But we have changed the suffix“i”into“y”for distinction, with the pronunciation changed accordingly.

What is a prediction market

Prediction markets are built on the principle that markets serve to aggregate the beliefs and multiple traders to generate a forecast. Similar to the stock market, which serves to assign a price to the future estimated earnings of a stock, “prediction markets” assign a value to a belief about the future (a prediction).

Prediction markets have an advantage over other forms of forecasts due to the following characteristics:
1) They can efficiently aggregate diverse and scattered information, beliefs and data.
2) They obtain truthful and relevant information through financial and other forms of incentives.
3) They provide a near real-time information update mechanism and are difficult to manipulate.

Delphy is a decentralized prediction market platform

Delphy is a mobile platform for prediction markets built on Ethereum as a DApp. In fact, it is a light Ethereum client running on mobile devices. Its born decentralization ensures that prediction markets are hard to manipulate or shut down, and there is no need to trust one single entity.

Delphy is a social platform of Prediction as a Service (PaaS) with its own ecosystem. Delphy users can trade in the prediction market directly, and take advantage of Delphy API & SDK to build their own customized prediction market applications based on their own preferences of markets, pricing strategy or oracle types.

Concepts

Features

Smart Contract

Delphy take advantage of smart contracts in Ethereum to create DPY Tokens, events and markets, pricing, market making, and liquidity.

Decentralized

Delphy is built on Ethereum as a DApp, and is a decentralized prediction platform with distributed online storage and indexing services.

Mobile

Delphy is not just a mobile app for prediction markets, but also a light Ethereum client running on mobile devices.

Customizable

The same event can create multiple prediction markets based on different sets of loss limits, deposits, pricing strategies, liquidity, Oracle types and dispute resolution mechanisms.

Event Filtering

Delphy provides an event filter API to help prevent markets from being created out of illegal or unethical events like assasination markets or terrorist markets.

Social

Prediction market participation is social behavior, and the Delphy app is a social prediction market featuring comments, sharing, P2P messaging, P2P payments, and OTC etc.

Applications

Financial Prediction

Delphy can offer trade in possible future outcomes on securities markets, in which case participants who use it are buying something like a future contract. It can achieve more granular financial instruments than existing financial derivatives, providing asset managers with more accurate risk hedging tools.

Insurance Prediction

Delphy can be used to predict the probability of an insurance event, which can provide special insurance products that are not covered by traditional insurance, such as extreme natural disasters, earthquakes, hurricanes and other insurance. Participation in prediction markets can effectively hedge insurance risks.

Sports Prediction

Delphy can be used to predict the outcome of sporting event, just like a form of spread betting. For example, will Los Angeles be awarded the right to host the 2028 Olympic Games? Decentralized sports prediction markets can reduce the threshold of market entrance and achieve the proof-of-innocence, and avoid the risk of a single point of failure etc.

Current Affairs Prediction

Delphy can host prediction markets for political events like presidential elections, news and entertainment events like reality TV shows, program rating, movie box office, and international current affairs, etc.

In-Market Prediction

Delphy can be used to predict the outcome of internal events such as product launch dates, product sales and issuance of new shares inside organizations like corporations (including Google, Microsoft, HP, Intel), government agencies (US Department of Defense), universities and other institutions.

Online Games Prediction

Delphy can not only be used to predict the results of fantasy sports or live eSports competition, but also be designed as a game play embedded in the game production. There could be a built-in prediction market for live game play in connection with real life events.

Value

Wisdom of Crowds

The market uses market incentives to allow the public, not just those experts, to contribute their own experience and wisdom, pools market information together to help make decisions, so that the crowds could be more intelligent than a single individual and expert.

Business of Truth Telling

In essence, the market collects the confidence and judgment of the parties involved in the same event on basis of the principles of the market, resulting in a prediction of the future outcome of the event. Similar to the stock market, which serves to assign a price to the future estimated earnings of a stock, “prediction markets” assign a value to a belief about the future (a prediction).

Creating Future

Delphy, as indicated by Greek mythology, is the place where the god of light Apollo announced the oracle. Delphy prediction market hopes to leverage the wisdom of crowds to forecast future events and even create the future.
